Maybe She's Born With It... Maybe It's Celery Juice.

If you told me 5 years ago I would be buying celery in bulk to juice and drink straight… I would have laughed in your face. I have never liked celery, let alone enough to drink a glass of it. Any juice recipe I have ever made that calls for celery, I replace with cucumber. I can force down celery when I am eating chicken wings in public if I dip it in blue cheese and the only reason I eat the celery is to appear more lady like if I am being honest. This juice is pretty mild in flavor considering there is an entire package of celery in it. Now that I’m 30, age is really catching up to me and I am trying to slow down the aging process as much as possible. Having high blood pressure is something that terrifies me but it’s hereditary in my family and I suffer from it. I am basically just a ball of anxiety 24/7 which spikes my blood pressure as well. I decided to do some research about natural remedies (even though I am now on blood pressure meds anyway- I am desperate to get off it). Celery juice is one of the natural ways to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, clear your skin up, help with gut health and act as an anti-inflammatory. Sounds too good to be true, right? I also thought, well if I drink this junk I can still eat gluten. That’s not really thing but I made it one, so you’re welcome. “Drink celery juice and you can eat pasta and drink beer!” is my new motto. Let’s make it go international! Anyway, I have had a nice surge of energy in the afternoons when I drink this as a pick me up. I’m looking forward to seeing some health benefits. Another positive of this, is a bag of celery is under $2 at most grocery stores, so you are saving money by making this yourself. I saw it was $8 at a juice shop. Insanity! Give it a try and let me know your thoughts! The following recipe serves 1.

Ingredients:

1 package celery

Ice cubes

Lemon

Directions:

Wash your celery and cut the ends off. Place in your juicer (or blender and once you are done, use a cheese cloth to squeeze the juice out) and juice away! Pour into a glass over ice (ice makes it more tolerable) and add a squeeze of lemon to cut some of the celery flavor. Enjoy!
